Why should I choose Solomon Schechter instead of public school?
Where else would your child receive a strong Jewish identity? Our children study and celebrate Jewish holidays and are taught Jewish values to live by for their entire lives. Solomon Schechter provides an excellent secular education, combining general studies with special subjects in small classes that emphasize individual achievement.
What if my child is coming into the school at an upper grade with little or no Hebrew?
We have special accommodations for these children, depending upon their individual backgrounds. We offer a Mechina program, a modified Hebrew-language track.
How well prepared will my child be for public high school?
Our graduates are exceptionally well prepared for high school. Solomon Schechter students develop self-confidence and routinely score above grade level on standardized tests.
Will my child receive computer training?
Yes. Children begin working in our computer lab in kindergarten and continue through eighth grade.
What if my child is gifted or needs extra help?
The needs of children who require additional challenges are met through enrichment programs and cross grading. For children in need of extra help, we have a full-time resource teacher who assesses their learning styles and special needs and provides instruction as needed.
Will my child be prepared for Bar/Bat Mitzvah?
Solomon Schechter Academy's students acquire all the necessary skills at school. They only need to learn their specific Torah portion. Most Solomon Schechter students do much more than the typical Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
Does my child still need to go to Hebrew School or Sunday School?
No. Solomon Schechter Academy offers a full program of Jewish Education. After school hours and weekends may be used for enrichment or family activities.
We are not very observant at home. What religious demands does the school impose?
Solomon Schechter Academy students come from Reform, Conservative, Orthodox and non-observant homes. Solomon Schechter Academy does not impose any particular level of observance in the home. However, Conservative Jewish practice and beliefs are taught in the school. We do ask that you respect the standards maintained at school and be considerate of other families whose level of observance may differ from your own.
